Hello Lover!

My relationship with Sex and the City (SATC) began pretty late in the game, basically not until 2005 when it went into syndication on the CW. I never had cable, let alone HBO…so I missed out on the actual full episodes. But that’s quite all right, I received the First season of SATC as a Christmas gift, and I have to say it was a little jarring to see the censored scenes. So I welcomed the cut version, because after all it never was about the sex….as much as it was about the City, and the Girls: Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda, and Samantha.

I’ll admit it, SATC is one of the many reasons that made NYC that much more appealing. I fantasize living in NYC in Carrie’s Apartment. Her apartment and her fabulous closet that clearly doubled as her investment portfolio…

“I like my money right where I can see it: hanging in my closet.”
-Carrie Bradshaw

So who do I most identify with on SATC?? Well I’m going to have to cheat a little. I honestly cannot pin myself onto just one girl. Let’s see, I somewhat identify with Charlotte’s romanticized ideals (luckily I haven’t yet turned cynical), and I am definitely at a point in my life where I am as career and power driven as Miranda. And on the exterior, I appreciate Carrie’s eccentric, over-the-top fashionista-ness, which has as much to do with Patricia Field, who found the right person to carry the looks in Ms. Bradshaw.

Carrie in a Vivienne Westwood Feather Bum Skirt (wish you could see the back)

My favorite all time Carrie Outfits would have to be all the scenes shot in Paris. Obviously, they had to go out with a bang in the final episodes of SATC. I love all of Carries ensembles in these scenes, such as the black and white striped top with another one of Carrie’s infamous oversized flowers and the beautiful dress Carrie was wearing when she fell asleep waiting for the Russian.

Top: Blue/white striped Sonia Rykiel sweater; Skirt: Black/white striped Sonia Rykiel; Coat: Blue sequined; Shoe: Manolo Blahnik; Hat: Black Chanel with pearl; Purse: Crème Judith Leiber with rhinestone handle
Dress: Seafoam 1000 layer Versace gown; Shoe: Bronze Gucci multi strap
heel

This wasn't in Paris...but I've always loved this look, I've tried to duplicate her hair in this episode many times...

As for Carrie’s men, Big and Carrie were so meant to be, Aiden was alright….like Granola…lol….and I absolutely loathed Burger. He was pretty pathetic, a whiner, just sooo sad. Ugh the post-it. Yuck.

My first trip to NYC with my girlfriends happened back in June 2007. We were hard-core tourists the entire week so how could we not indulge ourselves in the SATC tour? Highlights of the SATC tour were taking pics on Carrie’s stoop, visiting the park where Miranda fell on her face before meeting Brady’s new GF, raiding the newly opened Marc by Marc Jacobs store in Soho, and finally having only exactly 1 minute to run into Magnolia’s and get some cupcakes. It was seriously my lucky day, there was no line, I ran in, grabbed a box, stuffed it with cupcakes and flung a twenty at the cashier while I simultaneously flung myself out the door, in front of our moving tour bus and jumped on. Phew! Why is it I have super human strength and agility when food and fashion are on the line?

p.s. there is more on the tour…take a looksie

Our Type, Premium fonts from the Netherlands. Available on Fontshop.com

OurType holds a special place in FontShop’s heart because it was co-founded by the clever captain of our Benelux operation, Rudy Geeraerts. The foundry was born in 2002 when Rudy teamed up with Fred Smeijers who is internationally known for his writing and lectures, but above all, for his type designs. Smeijers’ work is sought after by designers seeking to dip into the deep well of contemporary Dutch typography.

Six years later, OurType is now one of the world’s preeminent font collections with over a dozen extensive families from both established designers and promising young guns. This latest batch includes several new releases along with existing typefaces updated to OurType’s OTF Pro format which supports the Latin Extended character set and OpenType extras like case-sensitive forms and additional figure styles.

Perhaps Jessica and myself have been talking lots of Hellz Bellz, but I came across this artist from the Hellz Bellz site-Roxy Cottontail. Here is how she decribes herself :

If only that was true, sorry chicas! At the very least the much anticipated movie release of Sex and the City will be this Friday at theaters all across America. Oooohh La La, what will be in store for us is exciting! Now I have stayed away from all the hoopla--the spoilers, the clips, the interviews, etc. I didnt want to taint my experience and I dont want to do that to you either. So for the next few days iDR will be posting Sex and the City stuff, but no spoilers here. We will be recapping and covering content about our favorite Sex and the City moments, city specific stuff, characters, fashion, etc. We've been waiting for this day to happen for so long. I hope Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda (and BIG too!) dont disappoint us! Atleast we get to see our four favorite girls in our favorite fashion forward city, New York! Sigh, its like falling in love all over again.... Can't wait to see it in theaters this May 30th! eeeeeeeeeek!

Old Navy

Do you ever walk around with your ipod and pretend you are in a music video or something? No...just me? lol, K fine...well to get an idea of what i'm talking about...I found those Old Navy commercials that I love so much, which lucky for these models have a perfect song playing in the background of their make-believe life. In these extended versions of the last 2 Old Navy commercials they both feature music from Lights- "Last Thing on Your Mind" and "February Air."

Ad campaigns, store displays, ambience all play a huge role in influencing the way I shop. Besides having the right product, you need the right lighting, music, imagery, spokespeople, models, etc....

OMFG!!!

So many good season finales this year with Gossip Girl, The Office, and now Ugly Betty. I loved all the cameos, Lohan and Campbell, and even Elle's Editor-in-Chief and Creative Director, Robbie Myers and Joe Zee. And the Elle vs. Mode Charity Softball game?! I love those uniforms, although I couldn't find any pics...but here's one with Naomi Campbell batting for Elle, with her infamous celly.

Side Note: Ladies you must get some red tights...if you are too scared and just want to try em out, I got a pair from h&m for under $4 bucks. That's less than a gallon of gas....

Anyways.....so um who do you think Betty chose? I am predicting she chose neither and chose herself. You know, so she could discover herself, by herself. Well I guess we will just have to wait and see....At least I have the Lost Finale to look forward too :-)

Where does one even where jumpsuits? In the slammer? Jumping out of an airplane? Well either way those scenarios and these fits require balls, a little bit of crazy, and a whole lot of confidence! For fall keep expecting to see vests, and sexy menswear touches.

All fits from WWD.com

1. Left: Matsu's wool and silk jumpsuit and Sari Gueron's cotton tulle blouse. Right: Joline Jolink's cotton and polyester jumpsuit and Richard Ruiz's silk chiffon blouse. 2. Benjamin Cho's wool jumpsuit. Giuseppe Zanotti shoes. 3. Myne's silk jumpsuit and Mackage's lambskin leather jacket. Moss Mills ring; Costume National shoes. 4. Preen's silk jumpsuit and Rose's wool and cashmere vest. Betsey Johnson boots. 5. McClure necklace and bracelet; Moss Mills bangle; Shane & Shawn boots.

H&M gets even "CHEAP"-er

So here's the skinny...yes, pun intended. H&M just took a 60% stake into Fabric Scandinavien which owns Cheap Monday ...which hopefully means the already affordable denim/etc. line will be making its way into h&m stores....see where I'm going with this?

Fallin'

Phillip Lim, Band of Outsiders, Michael Bastian, Three AsFour and this year jewelry designer Philip Crangi.

Just when I thought The Gap was well basically falling into their own gap and never to be heard from again...They are still fighting on to stay relevant in today's Fast-paced fashion race, with their CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund collabo part II, and now with Patrick Robinson who will be heading up design starting with the Fall 2008 collection. Although Patrick Robinson was my absolute least fave of all the Target Go International designers.....I have to say, the new fall line is looking a lot more fashion forward than Gap's beige-y past of khakis and cardigans...

I still prefer Old Navy which is perfect for stocking up on basics and trendy essentials and if you wait a week, or even a day, I promise everything goes half-price or more. I promise...no I swear!!! Don't ever, ever pay full-price at Old Navy...anyways another reason I love Old Navy over The Gap, besides their prices are their catchy commercials. I love their commercials! Hey I'm not ashamed to say they've reeled me in on their catchy tunes and their stories! Their latest commercial episode is Neon Nights....come-on don't tell me you don't sing-a-long! I need to go find a video to post-up b/c visuals are always better! :-)

Cai Guo-Qiang: I Want to Believe / Guggenheim Museum, New York

If you cant make it out to the Guggenheim Museum in NY enjoy this clip.

Cai Guo-Qiang: I Want to Believe, a comprehensive retrospective of the Chinese-born artist Cai Guo-Qiang (until May 28, 2008). The show presents early works, gunpowder darwings, explosion events, installations, and social projects. Cai Guo-Qiang: I Want to Believe features more than 80 works from the 1980s to the present. The exhibition has been designed as a site-specific presentation within Frank Lloyd Wright’s rotunda building and also in galleries of the Annex. According to the artist, the presentation fills the museum with the energy of an explosion. Eight of Cai Guo-Qiang’s most important installations are on display, the most dominating one being “Inopportune: Stage One (2004)”, comprised of nine cars pierced with blinking light tubes that simulate the trajectory of a car-bomb explosion tumbling upwards through the atrium’s void. On the Guggenheim Museum’s website there is an interesting video and a photo series of the installation process of the exhibition. Guggenheim Museum New York, March 27, 2008.
