Jazz Table Lamp from Vibia

I just moved into a new space at work- Horaay, im finally by the window! Other than natural light, im in need of a table lamp. I came across this one here, Jazz from Vibia which is clean, fluid, beautiful and well-expensive. This lovely lamp will cost you $2,178.00 but wait its on sale--$1,452.00!! Im sure you could find this italian
lamp on ebay as it is a designer item, or you might be able to find a similiar one from its Scandinavian cousin-Ikea.

Tom Frencken, Dutch Furniture Designer

tom frencken is a dutch furniture designer who graduated last year. his furniture designs are simple and often reference the past. his ‘odes’ series, for example, pays homage to the work of ray and charles eames and dutch designer, mart stam. the simple tubular steel frames echo the to work of stam, while the curved plywood acknowledges the eames. his dining chair design is also very eames-like, recalling their ‘lcw chair’. however more of frencken’s own humour is evident in his pregnant mary sculpture.

Unison Home

Time after time I get tired of the quality of Ikea but love their design sensibility. I think of home furnishing and bedding as an investment because of the long hours at work. Fresh from LA LA land

Another amazing weekend had just passed and wanted to give a quick recap

Have you ever run into a bag and think about the possibility of customizing it, making it look more like your own style? Well there is a solution my friend. Handbag Lab is a online shop that allows you to create your bag by choosing the style and color. I got a chance to meet up with the founder Amy at Manis Bakery (I had the mango salad, yummie) and discuss all that of HBL and iDR. Let me tell you the moment you meet Amy shes has a warm spirit. When Amy discusses HBL's accessories, the bags, the details and structure--its evident that her passion flows into the products. There is so much that goes into a handbag from conception stage, themes, looks, colors, leathers, furnishings, and production. iDR is so excited to hear she has some designer collaboration bags coming out!! What is to come are some stuff by Bijules (Jules Kim, www.bijulesnyc.com) and Christopher Bevens. Amy and myself discussed some trends overall in the fashion industry for fall. I dont want to spoil it so keep an eye out for some really good stuff from HBL.

I met up with Koderville and did some day shopping. He took me to Crooks and Castles where iDR browsed the store. They had some cool red wallets, their iconic chain C hat, and the usual tee shirts. What I had enjoyed was the interior layout of the store. The store had a majority marble inset (probably similar to Gianni Versace Miami's Casa, foyer perhaps?) and large art work that branded Crooks. Then off to Fred Segal Melrose. I was hugely disappointed. For a place that holds the bar for luxury brands did not resemble anything luxurious. Some merchandising was missing from the walls and retail space. No direction as far as what season that was not defined. Then iDR gets a phone call from Ben (previous post iDR Socal guide) and he directs us to WESC. WESC is an awesome space. The interior has lively neon colored plastic and dark wood fixtures with white walls. Then off to Intermix. Intermix is my NY fav! I had no idea Intermix existed on the westcoast!! This place never disappoints because they stock quality items, good brands, and unexpected, trendy clothes. Last but not least....The Beestings & Nosebleeds at the Standard Hotel day pool party on the rooftop was cool. The weather was not in our favor, but that didnt stop the party.

I was fortunate to spot Patricia Field at Cafeteria in Chelsea, NY. Shes amazing in person...artistic, eccentric and vibrant. The restaurant space is minimal, all white interior (seats, table, chairs, plates, etc) with lovely open windows. Cafeteria also has outside seating. I prefer the chedder and fontina mac 'n cheese plate!

JAPAN vs. UK: PingMag’s Desk Project!

Creative spaces are fun, inspiring, and sometimes chaotic and messy. Many times I've lingered at another designers desk poking around their gadgets, flipping through their mags or books, developing a prank (tape on a an optical mouse is the quick & easy), and such. Ping Magazine took it a step further and sent out an email to people they have interviewed (mostly creatives such as art directors, designers, writers, etc) from the UK and Japan. What does your desk look like?

Le Corbusier, Villa Savoye. Paris

One of my good friends, Phil, from design school had a chance to visit Villa Savoye. Above are some photos he had taken. I find it fitting that he visited Villa Savoye by the Swiss architect Le Corbusier, when majority of our design schooling and skills underly heavily on the Swiss and the International Typographic Style. Phils thoughts are that "Le Corbusier's Villa Savoye is simply amazing. It's pretty much an unreal space that you can frame a composition here, and then turn around to effortlessly frame another. Then you step back a bit to realize every little nook, cranny and column just make perfect sense. Brilliant design is always as equally functional!"

The Villa Savoye was build circa 1929. The house was emblematic of Le Corbusier work in that it addressed "The Five Points", his basic tenets of a new aesthetic of architecture. For further details on the Villa Savoye and Le Corbusier's work click here.

Muji in NY

Muji's long awaited opening will be in New York, Soho (455 Broadway, nr. Grand St.). Its a love relationship for quality goods without over pretentious brand names. It clear its a design essential and favorite. The MoMa store currently holds Muji goods but now the flagship store will implement the "simplicity" philosphy to the interior and retail of the building. The renowned Japanese interior design architect Takashi Sugimoto, principal of Superpotato Co. Ltd.–the international firm known for its retail interiors–will design the MUJI store so that it is seamlessly integrated with the dramatic New York Times Building designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Renzo Piano, in association with FXFOWLE Architects.
