Pink Friday: Join the Protest this Friday March 13th

I'm sure many of you have been aware of the recent and ongoing layoffs in our California Schools. As a product of the Los Angeles Public School System and with many friends who are teachers, it is important we show our support.

Here is a recent message I got from a Oakland Public School Parent via Facebook letting us know how we can get involved.

Here's the message:

As many of you know, the recent state budget cut billions of dollars from public education, and up & down the state thousands of educators are receiving layoff notices. As of yesterday, there have already been more than 25,000 pink slips issued. The deadline for pinks slips is this Friday, March 13th, and CTA has organized protests.

Parents in my city (Oakland) are organizing at the
corner of 51st and Broadway in Oakland at 4pm THIS Friday, March 13th to protest these layoffs and the school budget cuts. Please join the protests in your city (www.PINKFRIDAY09.org). Wear pink and bring your kids, cameras and protest signs.

These budget cuts are doing irreparable damage to our public school system, and shortchanging an entire generation of students of the quality education they deserve. Join us and stand up for California public school students.

Best,
Jean Parker
Oakland Public School Parent

I hope you all will take the time to show your support either by wearing Pink, Protesting, or Both!
