Nicole Richie's much anticipated (ok, maybe only by me?) accessories line is finally out, and is named after her beautiful daughter Harlow Winter. Love that name. Anyways don't know what it is about Nicole, but I love her. I even attended her book signing at Kitson, of which I was in line with a bunch of 12 year old girls....don't know what's worse....me in line at Kitson or pre-pubescent girls looking up to Nicole. Anyways, I still love her. I never got around to reading the book though, I just wanted to meet her, and I was literally in the neighborhood. Seriously!

The line is completely wearable and not too trendy, which may have been the case if she produced this line during her Simple Life x Paris BFF days...and the line is also surprisingly affordable, ranging in price from $12-$125.

Unfortunately, House of Harlow 1960 line is only available online at Kitson.com. And for the record, I really hate this store and website. The website is, sorry for the lack of a better word, ugly...The way they photograph and present their products is ugly. Shopping is all about the experience whether it's offline in your favorite boutique/dept. store/bargain basement or online at your favorite website...and Kitson just doesn't have a clue. Uniqlo and Free Clothes!

As the weather quickly becomes colder by the minute, I've been on serious shopping missions looking for sweaters, coats, and pants...basically simple pieces that will cover up every inch of my body. Maybe if I'm bold enough to brave the cold, I'll join the rest of New York to snag some free Uniqlo!

The World’s Most Perfect Script

I always pick up little candies or treats from Japanese, Korean, Chinese stores. What is it with their packaging? I think not only are they using materials that surpass American sweets, but it has a lot to do with their typography. Because countries that rely on a more block symbols as letterforms, their kerning and overall typography treatment is impactful and beautiful at the same time. Hoefler & Frere-Jones has written this article about The World's Most Perfect Script. Now that is a bold statement! Here is what they had to say: 

Typographically, the Republic of Korea has much to celebrate. The world’s first typefaces cast in metal were made in Korea: a fourteenth century book in the collection of the Bibliothèque Nationale de Paris establishes Korean printing from movable type at least as far back as 1377, though Korean typefounding may date to 1234, some 221 years before Gutenberg. An impediment to early printing was the complexity of Chinese characters, then used to render the Korean language, which further stifled national literacy. But in 1446, an undertaking by King Sejong the Great addressed both problems, through what is surely one of the greatest inventions in the history of typography: the Hangul alphabet. On October 9, Korea celebrates this incredible innovation as Korean Alphabet Day, better known as Hangul Day.

Breaking New Playground...

At my school's new student retreat I couldn't help notice this one guy for 2 reasons....1) He was 1 of 3 other Filipino's (including me) in the program, and 2) he was wearing an Upper Playground T-shirt. I thought to myself, he's got to be from the Bay! Well it wasn't until weeks later (I was too shy to go up to him and say your Filipino, so am I, and oh btw are you from the Bay?) that I finally caught up with him and discovered that he wasn't from the Bay, but he did work in SF for 2 years. So then we talked a little about Upper Playground, other Bay Area spots, and then Sushi House in Alameda! And then I got all homesick...


Anyways, as it turns out, according to NYMag, Upper Playground is coming to play on the East Coast. So go check it out...and I'm just curious...do we still like Upper Playground? I guess so if they can open up another store in NYC, despite the economy. Just curious.

Charlotte Ronson will be designing a diffusion line for J.C. Penney and will be in stores this Spring.

J.C. Penney is banking on Charlotte Ronson to infuse a bit of contemporary flair onto the selling floor.

The Plano, Tex.-based retailer has signed a long-term deal with the New York-based Ronson to design a full contemporary sportswear collection called I [Heart] Ronson, hitting 600 of Penney’s 1,093 stores for spring selling. The line will also be available on jcp.com and in Penney’s catalogues.

The collection is the latest in a series of exclusives launched by Penney’s this year as it seeks both to add buzz to its fashion offerings, especially in the contemporary and juniors areas, and lure the cautious consumer in the difficult economy.

While I was at Chari & Co. last week, I couldn't help but notice a crazy scene in a shop across the street. Now I really can't describe it so I'll let the photos speak for themselves. But here are the details:
